Packing and labeling

How to Label Moving Boxes So You Can Find Anything Later

Know exactly which box contains the item you need — even weeks after the move. Photograph items before wrapping, finalize container details, attach a QR label, then search when you need something.

How to pack and label a box

  1. Step 1 — Create the container and set metadata

Create the container in MoveAssist. Choose destination, transport method, and flags (fragile, priority, heavy, and so on). Add notes if needed. Finalize this before printing so it appears correctly on the label.

  2. Step 2 — Photograph each item before wrapping

Before wrapping an item, photograph it in MoveAssist while it is fully visible. Clear photos make it much easier to find the item later.

  3. Step 3 — Wrap, pack, and repeat

Wrap the item, place it in the container, and repeat for each remaining item: photograph, wrap, pack.

  4. Step 4 — Close the container and attach the label

Close the container when packing is done. Print the MoveAssist label and attach it to the box. You can print before or after packing, but finalize metadata first.

  5. Step 5 — Find the right box later

Search for an item by name. MoveAssist shows the matching photo, destination, and box code so you open only the container you need.

Why photograph before wrapping

Wrapping hides details MoveAssist needs to identify an item later. Photograph each item while it is still fully visible.

Create the container, set destination, transport method, flags, and notes. Photograph, wrap, and pack each item. Close the container, then print and attach the label. Metadata should be finalized before printing.

Printing on Avery 8126 labels

MoveAssist prints on Avery 8126 inkjet half-sheet labels — two per US Letter sheet, each 5.5 in × 8.5 in. Print one label at a time and rotate the sheet end-for-end between prints.

See the Avery 8126 article for print settings and a step-by-step checklist.
